Suffering from the animal allergies will determine one not to have pets in the house and this can be indeed a tough decision, especially for one who loves pets very much.

allergy free homeSo, what sort of allergy does you or your child has? Is the pet that you own the cause of your allergy, and if yes, how can you tell? One easy suggestion would be for you or your child stay for one week in a home with no pets, and if there are signs of improvements, then the cause of the allergy is quite simple to conclude.

Another way would be a visit to the allergist to have some tests run. There can be other allergens released by other sources to give the allergy conditions and as a result being much easier to identify them and hence be removed.

All these being revealed now you may want to create an allergy friendly home for yourself and/or your child by following these easy steps:

  • Replace the carpets with the hardwood or another hard surface flooring. In this way, they are easier to be cleaned. Leather furniture is to be preferred to the fabric made furniture, as it doesn’t hold too many allergens on its surface.
  • Make sure to always have a seat reserved for the allergy sufferer that the pets are not allowed to use or where they shouldn’t sit. Make sure that the sleeping area of the allergy sufferer is kept a pet-free zone of the home.
  • Look for your pet to be as less allergenic as possible. Having it bathed and groomed more often will prevent the pet’s skin to get dried and as such no more dander – this being the main cause to generate pet allergies. The best idea would be for the pet to be groomed by someone who doesn’t suffer from allergies.
  • After playing with the pet do not touch your face before previously washing your hands. If pet’s saliva is the one that causes the allergies, you should avoid letting your pet lick you, as well.
  • For more severe causes of allergies or asthma, no pet should be allowed indoors. But for adults and older children as well there can be a medication/treatment available to make the situation be more tolerable, in case they want to keep the pet anyway.

The information from above is intended to work as an educational material and doesn’t intend to act as a diagnosis or cure; for these you would have to get the assistance of the health care practitioner.
