The point of a game, any game is to win by defeating the opponent if there is one, or the game itself. Some titles are more competitive than others and usually more addictive, because the adrenaline rush is the best ingredient to keep players wired for a long period of time. While most developers are using this in their advantage and try to keep the players hooked, other create games like Bejeweled, which remain popular after a decade without using the same recipe.
While this might look more like a game for girls, many of the ones who are playing it on a daily bases are boys, which doesn’t make sense if you listen to the critics alone. The game mechanics are solid and the visual effects delightful, but that is usually not enough to keep male players wired for too long. Bejeweled won’t provide you with the chance of defeating fellow players, but uses a level based system that demands you to gain enough points to move further.
The colorful jewels have to form a horizontal or vertical line of at least three to disappear and reward you with points, but the longer the line is the bigger the prize. As you progress with the game, each level will be more demanding than the previous and in the end it will be quite a challenge to beat the buzzer. While standing firmly in the casual games category, Bejeweled will always leave you wishing for more, so it comes as no surprise that both the original game and the installments were very successful.
